1 of Many: Fear

Earlier today, for Motivational Monday, I asked a simple question:

“What is one fear you’re going to overcome this week?”

It made me stop and think about my own answer.

Fear can be one of the worst obstacles in business — and in life. It’s rarely the big problems that stop us. More often, it’s the fear of making a mistake, the fear of stepping outside our comfort zone, or even the fear of situations that haven’t happened yet.

For me, those fears have looked like this:

●      Fear of making the wrong decision.

●      Fear of putting myself out there.

●      Fear of not making enough money.

●      Fear of letting my family down.

The hardest part is that none of those fears guarantee anything will go wrong. Yet they have the power to keep us from moving forward before we’ve even taken the first step.

This blog is called “1 of Many” because it’s exactly that — the first of many entries where I’ll be sharing what’s going on inside my mind as I work to become the person I know I can be. This isn’t about pretending to have all the answers. It’s about documenting the journey of growth, one step at a time.

Today, I asked everyone else what fear they wanted to overcome.

Now it’s only fair that I share mine.

I know I will succeed.

But success isn’t just about working harder. It’s about becoming a different person than the one who allowed fear to make decisions. To succeed, I have to face my fears head-on and make changes that are uncomfortable.

Starting today, whenever fear tells me to stop, I’m going to move forward anyway.

No matter how uncomfortable it feels.

No matter how uncertain the outcome may be.

August 2026 will be my month of change.

This week, I’m choosing to overcome one fear in particular: the fear of leaving my comfort zone.

You might be wondering what that has to do with my business.

The answer is simple.

For years, I’ve struggled to consistently post on social media. Not because I didn’t know what to say, but because I was afraid of putting myself out there. I worried about what people would think, whether anyone would care, or whether I was doing it right.

That ends today.

This week, I will post consistently — both professionally through Abacus Business Consulting and personally through this journey. Every post is another step outside my comfort zone, and every step helps grow my confidence, my marketing, and ultimately my business.

The truth is, very few people may read this first blog.

And that’s okay.

Because this blog isn’t about going viral.

It’s about proving to myself that fear no longer gets to make my decisions.

Maybe one day someone will find these posts while going through the same struggles I’m facing today. If my journey helps even one person realize they’re not alone, then sharing it will have been worth every uncomfortable moment.

So I’ll end with the same question I asked this morning:

What is one fear you’re going to overcome this week?

As for me…

I’m done letting fear decide my future.
